CUTX was recognized for community involvement, customer service and employee dedication.

ALLEN, Texas, Mar. 2, 2022 – In recognition of its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves, Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) was awarded the 2021 Torch Awards for Ethics by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving North Central Texas. The BBB Serving North Central Texas, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing marketplace trust for over a century, awards its highest honor, the Torch Awards for Ethics, each year to organizations that demonstrate an exceptional focus in four areas: character, culture, customers and community.

According to the BBB, it selected honorees “whose leaders demonstrate a high level of personal character, ensure that the organization’s practices meet the highest standards of ethics and, consequently, generate trust with its customers and the community.” CUTX was recognized for its deep commitment to its employees, including fulfilling its promise of no employee layoffs during the COVID-19 pandemic and its vaccine mandate focused on protecting its employees and members. In addition, CUTX’s service to its members and connection to and involvement in impactful community organizations played a significant role in it receiving the award. Among the many North Texas groups CUTX regularly supports financially and with volunteer time are the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County, Junior Achievement, the NAACP of Collin County, the Equal Justice Initiative and the North Texas Food Bank. In 2021, CUTX team members volunteered 800 hours to 76 ISDs and nonprofits, and CUTX donated more than $1.4 million to support area schools, nonprofits, special needs groups and first responders.

“Throughout my tenure leading CUTX, I have seen firsthand how we advocate for our communities, provide unparalleled service to our members and foster the careers of our employees,” said Eric Pointer, president and CEO of CUTX. “This BBB Torch Award is a testament to our team’s hard work in upholding our reputation as an accountable, community-driven organization and the moral principles on which our company was founded nearly a century ago.”

“BBB is known for identifying substandard business practices,” said Monica Horton, BBB Spokesperson for BBB Serving North Central Texas. “But, we also find it necessary to highlight businesses that are trustworthy and taking the sometimes difficult steps to do the right thing. The BBB Torch Award was designed to do just that. Our winners should be proud to be part of an elite group of companies that promote ethics as a core value.”

According to company size and nonprofit categories, the BBB Serving North Central Texas selected six 2021 Torch Awards for Ethics winners. CUTX won the more-than-500-employees category and will compete internationally with BBB Torch Award for Ethics winners across North America at the International Association of Better Business Bureaus Torch Awards for Ethics this summer.

In addition to the Torch Awards for Ethics, in 2021 CUTX was recognized throughout North Texas for its community involvement, customer service and employee dedication. CUTX was voted the Best Credit Union in DFW by the readers of The Dallas Morning News and received the Communities Foundation of Texas “Be in Good Company” Seal of Excellence, which symbolizes excellent corporate citizenship in North Texas.
