What can you use BNPL for?

How soon after becoming a member will BNPL offers display?

  • You must have established your account 90 or more days before you will qualify for BNPL.

How do I get started with Buy Now, Pay Later?

  • There’s no application or credit check necessary! Credit Union of Texas BNPL offers are made based on your account relationship and the type of debit card purchase you make. When a your account is eligible for BNPL, and you make a qualified debit card purchase, a BNPL offer is automatically available and displayed in OLB.

Where can you find your BNPL offers?

  • BNPL offers are displayed within the BNPL tab of online banking.

How many BNPL plans can a I have at the same time?

  • You can have up to 5 active BNPL plans at a time. However, this does not mean that you will always qualify for 5 plans at once. Your eligibility is based on your relationship.

How do I know if my debit card purchase qualifies for a BNPL offer?

  • When a debit card purchase qualifies for BNPL, the offer will display in digital banking. If an offer is not displayed, then the purchase was not eligible for BNPL. This could be due to several factors, including:
    • The transaction amount was too small or too large
    • The transaction was made at an ineligible merchant type. Some common merchant types that are not eligible for BNPL include:
    • ATM withdrawals, Cash Advances, or other cash and money transfer services
    • Your account may have been overdrawn frequently. If you have been in a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) status 3 or more days in the last 60 days you would not qualify for BNPL.

How long will an offer be displayed in digital banking?

  • Our BNPL offers expire 30 days after the transaction posting date. If it has not been 30 days since the member the debit card purchase posted, then the offer was removed for another reason. This can happen for several reasons, most commonly:
    • You accepted a different offer and did not qualify for both.
    • Your activity changed, and you no longer qualify for new BNPL plans.

What is the minimum transaction amount for a qualifying debit card purchase?

  • The minimum transaction amount is $80.

What is the maximum amount a you can borrow for BNPL?

  • Members can borrow up to $2,500 in BNPL plans.
  • Additionally, a purchase greater than $2,500 will not qualify for BNPL. For example, a $2,800 purchase will not receive an offer for the maximum BNPL amount of $2,500.

If I am overdrawn, will I qualify for BNPL plans?

  • If you have been in a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) status more than 3 times during the last 60 days, you will not be eligible for BNPL.

What BNPL plan repayment options are offered?

  • Our BNPL program includes 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month repayment options. You will be offered the repayment options that you are qualified for.

Is there a late fee if a I do not pay my plan on time?

  • Yes, you have a 10-day grace period after the payment due date where no late fee is charged. After the grace period expires, a late fee of 5% of the delinquent payment amount (maximum $50) will be charged.

Can I change my installment plan from one term to another term?

  • No, once you establish an installment plan, the terms cannot be changed.

What if a I creates a plan, and then return the item I purchased? What will happen to the BNPL plan?

  • The store’s return policy will determine how you receive your refund. The BNPL plan will not be affected. You can choose to pay off the plan early or allow the plan to be repaid as scheduled.

How will using BNPL affect my credit score?

  • Credit Union of Texas does not perform a credit check when determining your eligibility for BNPL. However, BNPL loans are reported to all three credit bureaus.
  • An unpaid BNPL plan that becomes delinquent may result in negative information being reported to the credit bureau.

Why would I choose a BNPL plan over a credit card?

  • Credit cards are strong payment vehicles. They allow you to make purchases you need and repay over time – like BNPL. However, credit cards require different qualifications, and, for some members, it is not an available option
  • Regardless of your ability to qualify for our credit card program, you may still prefer the low cost, convenient access, and simple terms provided through our BNPL program.
